Dining in HK

So it's been almost two months and we've travelled through India and Myanmar, seeking out roadside cafes, hole-in-the-wall style cheap eats and risky street food. And now we arrive in Hong Kong, Asia's world city, which felt a lot more like home. It was an opportunity for us to feel a bit of comfort through our big city surroundings. We shopped, drank, and even indulged in a Christmas night out (and completely wrote off the next day...) It was a well needed break. However this slice of home, complete with its spotlessly clean streets and functioning, well... everything, also came with a host of western style restaurants. You couldn't go anywhere without finding a McDonald's restaurant, McCafe or (Mc) ice cream shop. The city in that respect was overwhelming. Bibimbap Soho - my first taste of Korean food.

This tasty little restaurant is located down Greek Street in Soho. A fantastic central location perfect for a quick bite before going out or for a break from shopping. And that's just its convenience. Experiencing my first meal at Bibimbap Soho wouldn't have been right without trying the signature Korean dish: Bibimbap. My chosen dish to devour was chilli chicken complete with a fried egg on top. Served in a sizzling hot stone bowl, as soon as the dish hits your table you are presented with  delicious fragrances of garlic and chilli combined with the chicken, rice and vegetables. I wasn't sure of the best way to tackle this dish or that I'd even manage to finish it (but of course I did), but quickly learnt that mixing the ingredients with  your chopsticks is vital to avoid the rice sticking to the hot bowl and that the crispy rice even adds to the flavour and textures. The other Tooting Chicken Shop

Anyone who has recently moved outside of Zone 2 will know that there are certain areas estate agents push (and push) and whether you choose to believe their spiel about it being "an up and coming area" or "the next Shoreditch" is up to you. My past experience with a certain group of Coca-Cola supplying rahs, is that most of the time they are telling a load of rubbish and will almost certainl y drive you to an area you didn't ask for, for a price you didn't agree.     So it took me by surprise to find that actually, Tooting is pretty up and coming. I'd been to the Tram and Social before, but anyone who's walked the short walk between there and the station, knows that the choice of shops are really limited to Wilkos and a take-away chicken shop.
