A gem of a restaurant... NOW CLOSED

It's Friday night and my mum and sister are visiting me in London, so where do I take them? Trendy Shoreditch. The restaurant? Funky Asia . A brightly coloured and vibrant restaurant bar with mis-matched furniture and finish-your-plate food. A-MA-ZING! What's more is this restaurant is available on Tastecard , even on a Friday night! Normally I would be won over by a Pad Thai and although I love it, I always get food envy of other people's food. So I decided to let my boyfriend choose for me instead. The result was a Mussman Gae, a peanut and coconut Thai curry with lamb shank. It was absolutely gorgeous and went down nicely with a pint of Asahi! To sum up: absolutely lovely and will definitely be going there again!!! Yelly -fi-felly-food-belly x

Butternut Squash, Blue Cheese & Nutmeg Tart

Image
I made this dish the other night and loved it so much that I ate the portion that I had orginally made as extra for my lunch! I will definitely be making this again! This recipe should feed 4 with a side salad... I'm trying to get better with the measurements so sorry if they're not quite right! Ingredients Ready rolled puff pastry 1 red onion - cut into 8 segments 1/2 a butternut squash - diced 1/2 an aubergine - sliced to about 0.5cm thick A couple of handfuls of spinach Blue cheese - amount depends on how much you'd like to crumble on the top! 8 cherry tomatoes - halved Ground nutmeg - 1 tsp 1. Pre-heat the oven to around 180 degrees 2. Unroll the pastry, place on some baking paper on top of a baking tray and score a line 1 inch from each of the edges of the pastry to create a border and brush the border with a little milk 3. Meanwhile, in a frying pan fry the butternut squash in some olive oil until slightly softened (this is best on a low he

Simple scrummy Zizi's pasta !

This is the yummiest yet still one of the easiest pasta dishes I have ever made. It is my version of Zizi's Pollo Picante ... Ingredients: Dried pasta (or spinach and ricotta tortellini for extra yumminess!) Sacla Fiery Chilli Pesto Double cream Roast chicken (to make easier use ready to eat roast chicken) Cherry tomatoes Spinach 1. Boil the pasta 2. Tear up the chicken and fry with the tomatoes in a small amount of olive oil until the chicken is golden and slightly crispy 3. Add the pesto and cream 4. When the pasta is cooked, drain and add to the sauce with the spinach and stir 5. Season to taste and enjoy (you could even add some parmesan if you fancied it!) I never measure anything out so go by what you feel is right / tastes right (just go easy on the Fiery Chilli Pesto!) I've also tried this recipe with smoked bacon rather than chicken as that's all I had in the fridge - tastes amaaaazing ! Enjoy :) Yelly -fi-felly-food-belly x

Room for two more?

If you have ever been to Wagamama during peak times you would have experienced that uncomfortable feeling when the waitress leads new customers towards the place settings next to you on an already crowded table... the Afghan Kitchen on Upper Street Islington however was something else... Despite Wagamama's communal tables and the inability to have any sort of private conversation during the peak times, I still bloody love it (especially the Yaki Udon)! However the Afghan Kitchen was just a bit too much. We booked the table for 7.30 on a Saturday evening, which by London's standards is still pretty early. I say this because before booking the table we read the numerous reviews about how you literally sat elbow-to-elbow to the couple next to you, which we assumed would be at peak busy times (late evening). Walking into the Afghan Kitchen we were hit with AMAZING , smells and I couldn't wait to try the food. At this point there didn't seem to be a prob

Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first.

And never be afraid to try new things... ... So this is exactly what I'm doing! I'm starting a blog about one of my favourite hobbies (and possibly my missed calling in life)... FOOD . Eating and cooking, I just love food - who doesn't?! I probably should be a lot bigger than I am, my eyes certainly are! Watch this space. Yelly -fi-felly-food-belly x
